Negative Amortization

A financing arrangement in which monthly payments are less than the true amortized amounts and the loan principal increases over the term of the loan rather than decreases. The accrued interest is added to the unpaid principal, usually resulting in the borrower owing more money than if it had paid the entire interest expense. The main use of this type of loan is to lower monthly payments since they are not paying the entire amortized amount each month.
